Choose your baby's age and the time they woke up, and we will show an approximate range for the next nap. It uses the same wake windows as our guide to wake windows by age.
How it works
We add to the wake-up time the amount of time a baby of that age can usually stay awake, the so-called wake window. It is measured from wake-up to wake-up: it works for the night sleep as well as for a nap. The result is a range, not an exact time. These are the values we use, the same as in the guide:
| Age | Approximate window |
|---|---|
| Newborn (0-6 weeks) | 45-60 minutes |
| 1 month | 45-70 minutes |
| 2 months | 70-90 minutes |
| 3 months | 1h 15min - 1h 30min |
| 4 months | 1h 30min - 2h |
| 5 months | 1h 45min - 2h 15min |
| 6 months | 2h - 2h 30min |
| 7 months | 2h 15min - 2h 45min |
| 8 months | 2h 30min - 3h |
| 9 months | 2h 45min - 3h 15min |
| 10 months | 3h - 3h 30min |
| 11-12 months | 3h 30min - 4h |
How to use the result
- Watch your baby more than the clock. Yawning, rubbing eyes or getting fussy are tired cues: if they show up before the range, offer the nap earlier.
- It is a guide, not a rule. Some babies consistently land at the short or long end of the range, and the last window of the day is usually longer than the ones in the middle.
- To see how many naps and hours of sleep usually fit each age, see baby sleep schedule by month.
Safe sleep for every nap
The schedule can change; safe sleep rules do not: always on their back, on a firm, flat mattress, with no pillows or loose blankets in the crib, and in the same room as the parents.

Frequently asked questions
What wake-up time should I enter?
The time your baby woke up from their last sleep, whether it was the night or a nap. The window is counted from there.
Why does it give a range and not an exact time?
Because the time a baby can stay awake varies from baby to baby and from day to day. The range is the one our guides give by age.
Does it work for any nap of the day?
Yes, to work out the next sleep from any wake-up. Remember that the last window before the night sleep is usually a bit longer.
